Sarah (Sally) Hines recently joined Liston Abramson after more than 40 years of public service as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. She is a highly experienced trial lawyer, with wide-ranging experience with criminal proceedings and investigations at all levels. She has also served as a member of and counsellor to institutional boards and management.

For much of her time with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Ms. Hines was a Senior Trial Counsel in a general Trial Bureau. She handled over 50 felony jury trials, and dozens of criminal investigations, focused primarily on murder and other major felonies. These included high profile and complex cases. She also served for several years as Senior Investigative Counsel in the Office’s Rackets Bureau, handling corruption cases such as bribe receiving and perjury. Other areas of practice, in the Special Litigation Bureau, included representing the District Attorney’s Office and its employees in civil rights litigation as well as other civil proceedings arising from criminal prosecutions. She practiced in both state and federal court, including the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She also handled dangerousness hearings at Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center and Manhattan Psychiatric Center, regarding violent inmates. She spent two years as the Attorney in Charge of the N.Y.U. Law School’s Prosecution Clinic, teaching and supervising law students who were sworn in as Student ADAs in the New York City Criminal Court.

Ms. Hines also served for two years in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. She was a Trial Attorney in the Criminal Fraud Section, where she investigated and prosecuted white collar and financial fraud cases, including a complex, multi-defendant mortgage-based securities fraud.

She is an Adjunct Professor at New York Law School, where she has taught Advocacy of Criminal Cases since 2011.

Her community service has included serving on the Board of Trustees of Grace Church School for over 10 years, with several years as Vice Chair. She is now a member of the Vestry of Grace Church in New York.
